Yes, Yishun , this Northern town of Singapore, has been in the news recently for its weirdness and macabre activities. Several cynical netizens have also made parodies of this unique town, calling Yishun an outcast area.
But is it truly a place for murder and siao lang activities? Hmmm…Here are some of their finest traits that hopefully can erase the stereotype image you have of Yishun.
Firstly(1), convenience…there are several 24-hour food outlets you can enjoy here…fast food outlets aside, there’s also the famous Nakhon Kitchen at street 21.
The neighboring town of Kathib also has several big supermarkets such as Sheng Shiong and NTUC Fairprice.
Secondly(2), back in October 2012, the Home and Law Affairs Minister K. Shanmugan also introduced the “Love cats” ownership scheme. This enabled many Yishun residents, particularly in the Chong Pang area, to own a cat.
This project was extended for another two years in 2015. You may also LIKE this Facebook page Yishun 326 Tabby Cat.
So naturally, this came as a shock when there was a string of cat killer cases, notably a 41-year-old man hurling a cat to its death from the 13th floor. He was later sentenced to 18 months jail.
Thirdly(3), Yishun has lots of plot land that have been used for new residential development and schools. But a certain portion has been retained for natural conversion usage. Check out the ORTO bottle tree park near the Yishun Stadium, and the Seletar Reservoir just nearby.
And of course, glorious food in Yishun! Some of it are renowned not just in that area, but Singapore too. Such as 925 Chicken Rice, Chong Pang Nasi Lemak and the five spices (五香) in Chong Pang market!
Anyone here live in Yishun?
